Westford Academy Shuts Out Lincoln-Sudbury in Commanding 31-0 Win

On Saturday, the Westford Academy Football Team dominated Lincoln-Sudbury with an impressive 31-0 shutout, thrilling spectators with a strong performance. Driven by a renewed confidence and determination to avenge last year’s loss to Lincoln-Sudbury, the team entered the game focused on flawless execution—and it showed.

Senior Receiver, Ryan Kyle, had an excellent game.  He had 97 yards receiving and 2 touchdowns.  His second touchdown was a one handed circus catch in the back of the endzone.  Kyle also was 4/4 on PATs and he nailed a 29-yard field goal.

Other top performers on the offensive side of the ball were quarterback Alex Wilson (11-for-15, 193 yards, two touchdowns) and Jesse Moran (15 carries, 139 all-purpose yards, two touchdowns). Wilson, who is a first year QB has been terrific all year. He just keeps getting better and better each week.

WA’s Defense pitched their 4th shutout of the season.  Cooper Durgin and Chris Butts had an interception each.  The D line of Chris Butts, Malcolm McDonald, Connor Knoettner and JJ Wilson were causing chaos all afternoon in the Warriors back field.  Senior Linebacker Sean Cryan led the defensive in stats.

Senior Offensive and Defensive Lineman Ben Durgin explained the mindset ahead of the Lincoln-Sudbury game, “Going into (the game)...we’re pretty confident…we’re carrying that momentum into the game on Saturday.”

The defense has been a cornerstone of Westford Academy’s winning streak, strengthened by the trust and unity among the players. Defensive Coordinator Eli Gioumbakis highlighted this bond, saying, “We have a tight-knit group, they work together…when we make mistakes it’s important that we lift each other up.”

This Friday, the Ghosts are set to return to Leominster for the highly anticipated first round of the playoffs, where they will face a familiar rival. The stakes are high as Westford Academy seeks redemption after a narrow, hard-fought game on October 4th, where they ultimately came up short in a 42-33 loss to Leominster. Over a month has passed since that tough defeat, and the team has had time to regroup, strategize, and strengthen their game. The Ghosts are now more determined than ever to turn the tables in what promises to be an intense and thrilling rematch.

Since that defeat, the Ghosts have regrouped, using each practice to refine their strategy and solidify team cohesion. They have developed a better understanding of their roles on the field, and now, with a more cohesive game plan, they are prepared to capitalize on their collective strengths.

The team is hopeful and motivated to make a strong comeback, bringing their sharpened skills and focused energy to the field. With Friday’s rematch fast approaching, the Ghosts are determined to secure a victory, ready to show just how far they have come since their last meeting with Leominster.
