Last Friday night was a triumphant one for Westford Academy, as the football team clinched a decisive victory over Andover High School. After a tough loss the previous week against Leominster, the team came into the game with a renewed sense of purpose, determined to correct their mistakes and show their true potential. Their hard work throughout the week was evident on the field, as they dominated both offensively and defensively. The victory was not only a boost to their morale but also a testament to their resilience and commitment. Â
The seniors on the team played an integral role in the win, leading by example in what was one of their final regular-season games. For these athletes, the night was bittersweet. As they near the end of their high school football careers, the reality of saying goodbye to Westford Academy Football has begun to sink in. For many, the program has been more than just a sport—it’s been a second family, a source of life lessons, and a foundation for lasting friendships. Â
Quarterback Alex Wilson continued to shine under the home lights. Wilson rushed for 104 yards and passed for 109 yards on 13-for-18 accuracy. He scored on runs of 2 and 5 yards, and lofted a 67-yard TD strike. Wide receiver Ryan Kyle was also immense for Westford. He hauled in TD receptions of 64 and 68 yards. He also booted a 28-yard field goal.
One of the key plays of the game came in the second quarter when running back Evan Pasters connected with Kyle on a 64-yard scoring pass.
On the Defensive side of the ball, Cooper Durgin had a strong game. Cooper had 10 total tackles, a fumble recovery and an interception. Sophomores Malcolm MacDonad and JJ Wilson were both strong in the trenches.
This season has been marked by more than just wins and losses—it’s been about building a legacy. The seniors have set a high standard for the underclassmen, leaving behind a culture of determination, teamwork, and pride. With such a strong foundation, the future looks bright for Westford Academy Football. Â
Looking ahead, the team’s focus is now squarely on the traditional Thanksgiving Day Game against their longtime rivals, Acton-Boxborough. This annual matchup is more than just a game; it’s a cherished tradition that brings together players, families, and the entire community. For seniors, it will be the last time they suit up in their school’s colors, and for underclassmen, it’s an opportunity to honor their teammates’ contributions while stepping up to carry the torch. Â
The team continues to push themselves in practice, determined to end the season on a high note. They know that a strong showing against Acton-Boxborough would not only solidify this year’s success but also set the tone for seasons to come. Â
As the season winds down, one thing is clear: Westford Academy Football has built more than a team—they’ve created a legacy of grit, perseverance, and unity that will inspire future players for years to come.
