On Friday, the Ghosts Football Team secured a dominant 35-7 victory over Waltham. The night was also a celebration of Senior Night, honoring seniors from the Ghosts Football Team, Westford Academy Varsity Cheer, and the Westford Academy Marching Band. Before kickoff, family members lined the parking lot with large cutouts of players' faces, cheering them on as the team made its way through the lot and onto the field for warm-ups.
Westford Academy quickly took control of the game, Quarterback Alex Wilson and the offense couldn’t be stopped.
Wilson was 7-for-9 through the air for 150 yards, lofted a 39-yard touchdown pass and ran a yard for another score.
Running back Jesse Moran scored twice, on runs of 5 and 1 yards. Wide receiver Ryan Kyle added a 20-yard rushing TD on a well-executed reverse for the Ghosts (3-2) and Quinn Reynolds hauled in a 39-yard pass from Wilson.
Westford’s defense played lights out as well. Sophomores, JJ Wilson and Malcolm Mcdonald led the defense in tackles and big plays. Â
Looking ahead, the team will travel to Concord-Carlisle High School this Friday. The student section will sport a Pink-Out theme in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Although it's an away game, students and spectators are still encouraged to show up and cheer for the Ghosts. The team's morale often gets a boost from the loud, energetic atmosphere of their supporters, especially during challenging matchups.
After the long weekend, the team is focusing on improving in practice this week, particularly by strengthening their defensive players and enhancing the offensive line.
